Show Warm Up Tips

Here are some tips for when I'm at a show that I use in my Warm up. These tips are what I use for Smash but they might help you, too.

Dressage Warm Up:
- Get Smash focused on me. If she is spooking/looking around because it's an unfamiliar place it's time to start working her until she focuses.
- 10 meter figure 8s. This will make us both focus on what we're doing instead of potential scary objects
- Canter work
- If she is not listening make circles smaller vs bigger
- Keep upper body up and proud

Stadium Warm Up:
- Get Smash focused and listening
- Do a few trot fences then canter them
- Pay special attention to the quality of the trot and canter. It must be polite!
- Start remembering your position tips: Head up, leg on, flexible elbows, crop ready, don't worry about picking a spot (that's Smash's job)
- Use the crop after 1st hesitation!

XC Warm Up:
- By now you should be pretty warmed up O/F since you're coming right from Stadium so just focus on Smash's attention and quality of canter in the field.
- Ride every element as if she will stop - don't take any for granted!
- Continue to keep eyes/head up, flexible elbows, and leg on
- The cantering must be controlled between fences
